Rebecca Smith:

Hello.

Angeline Compau:

Good morning. I'm eating my breakfast.

Rebecca Smith:

McChicken. mayonnaise sandwich.

Angeline Compau:

Oh, so good.

Rebecca Smith:

I know I did. We are up early today. So well it's noon

Angeline Compau:

early for me.

Rebecca Smith:

Yes. Only because we had I know, listen to my voice sounds so sexy. I feel like

Angeline Compau:

mine sounds like hot garbage. Because I'm like, not I just woke up like 10 minutes ago.

Rebecca Smith:

That's so crazy. I got up at like, I did get up early because I had to watch a whole movie before on my topic, but I haven't had time to do research because it's been

Angeline Compau:

this weekend was crazy.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah, it was our recital weekend. So we had from Thursday on just like, all day. It was cuckoo bananas. How did you do at recital? Angeline

Angeline Compau:

Okay, let me tell you.

Rebecca Smith:

Okay.

Angeline Compau:

11 To 11 o'clock show?

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah.

Angeline Compau:

Not so great.

Rebecca Smith:

No, that was the first one so yeah, I usually get the jitters out.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah, I got the jitters. I got I got a little performance.

Rebecca Smith:

Anxiety.

Angeline Compau:

Yep. Didn't do so hot

Rebecca Smith:

no?

Angeline Compau:

Five o'clock. Nailed it.

Rebecca Smith:

You did?

Angeline Compau:

Yeah. did really good. I was like, Oh, cool. Okay, I guess I got all that out.

Rebecca Smith:

Because you're more relaxed. Yeah.

Angeline Compau:

And I'm like, Oh my god. Once I get this done, it's done.

Rebecca Smith:

I messed up in ballet in both of them. But I really my, the ones that did the best in the tap. And surprisingly hip hop because I don't love it.

Angeline Compau:

Because you have a mask on.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah, cuz nobody knew it was me because we're wearing masks. That was awesome.

Angeline Compau:

I can't wait to see how that looked on video.

Rebecca Smith:

I know. Right?

Angeline Compau:

Because everyone said it looked really cool.

Rebecca Smith:

Oh good. Well, because the first show when we first started, and the guy's like, Whoa,

Angeline Compau:

yeah,

Rebecca Smith:

the guy in the audience was like whoa,

Angeline Compau:

that was hilarious.

Rebecca Smith:

Awesome. So yeah,

Angeline Compau:

hilarious.

Rebecca Smith:

I messed up in jazz a little bit.

Angeline Compau:

Oh,

Rebecca Smith:

but not noticeable.

Angeline Compau:

The first show jazz disaster.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah,

Angeline Compau:

just for me. I don't know how about everyone else. But for me. No good.

Rebecca Smith:

I did. I Oh, no. I did like that we got done earlier this year. Because she did three shows and they were shorter. But we still I still didn't get home til after midinght because we went to April's and sat in hot tub. Gonna get in the hot tub.

Angeline Compau:

Oh, that was great.

Rebecca Smith:

It was nice.

Angeline Compau:

My whole body was sore.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah. Yeah, I after I left there, I went and unloaded my car at the studio. Because I had some of that food that the snacks and stuff and so I didn't want

Angeline Compau:

you went to the studio at midnight.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah.

Angeline Compau:

Oh my god.

Rebecca Smith:

Well, I had to unload that stuff out of my car because I didn't want to go today. And I want to go tomorrow. And I leave.

Angeline Compau:

Oh, yeah,

Rebecca Smith:

This is why Okay, so we're recording two episodes today? Because I'm leaving on Wednesday for Seattle. For my sister's celebration.

Angeline Compau:

That's awesome.

Rebecca Smith:

Um, so yeah, so tired. Tired. So okay, my week. Where's this gonna be short and sweet. Here's the thing. I felt creepy doing pedophiles. So, I'm switching it up.

Angeline Compau:

Good for you.

Rebecca Smith:

Last week was the last week of our little series. So I'm switching it up. It still involves a child. But it's a happy story. Kind of

Angeline Compau:

ending on a happy note

Rebecca Smith:

yes

Angeline Compau:

ending the month.

Rebecca Smith:

So do you know about baby Jessica?

Angeline Compau:

Yeah,

Rebecca Smith:

you do know?

Angeline Compau:

I think so.

Rebecca Smith:

Okay. That she fell down a well.

Angeline Compau:

Oh, my God. Yeah. Yeah, that's her. I was like, Yeah, I do know about that. What happened?

Rebecca Smith:

this was, wait, You were born in 90. Yeah. So this is even before you were born.

Angeline Compau:

Somebody, I think my favorite murder did this story. I heard it.

Rebecca Smith:

But she didn't die.

Angeline Compau:

You know? You're right. But they still did the story. And that was one of the reasons I was like, I'm done with this show. If someone doesn't die, I don't want to hear it.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah. Well, someone kind of dies but

Angeline Compau:

I'm just kidding.

Rebecca Smith:

So baby Jessica McClure. Actually Jessica McClure Morales because her mom got divorced, remarried, but anyway. So in 1987 I'm a happy little what? 13 year old in 1987.

Angeline Compau:

Oh, yeah.

Rebecca Smith:

And living in Tucson. And you hear this story about a baby in Midland, Texas. 18 month old baby falling down a well. Now we in Tucson do not have wells,

Angeline Compau:

so you're like what's a well?

Rebecca Smith:

I knew what my version of a well is like what you see in movies like that big like a wishing well type thing where you roll the bucket down and get the water and you roll the bucket back up. And that Little House on the Prairie style. That was my version of I'm like, Okay, roll the bucket down. Get the baby. What? What? What's the deal?

Angeline Compau:

That's what I'm thinking. What is it?

Rebecca Smith:

No, it's like, your, our wells here.

Angeline Compau:

Oh, one of those kind of wells. Oh, you just taught me something.

Rebecca Smith:

see

Angeline Compau:

Hey. Sorry, I had to do that.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah, that's a little ASMR for you people out there.

Angeline Compau:

Or you could cut it out? I don't know.

Rebecca Smith:

We'll leave it in.

Angeline Compau:

Okay.

Rebecca Smith:

We've gotta make this as long as we possibly can, it's gonna be like afive minute podcast

Angeline Compau:

listen to me crinkle my wrappers and throw it in my bag.

Rebecca Smith:

Okay, so she fell in the well. October 14 1987. And it took them 58 hours to get her out of the well.

Angeline Compau:

That's insane.

Rebecca Smith:

So after all, at the well is like eight inches wide. So she's like a little baby. And what happened? Okay, so she's at her sister's house in Midland, Texas. Her sister runs like a daycare kind of situation. And so her mom was there watching some kids, and went inside to answer the phone. And then came back out and her baby's gone. And then like, because then the TV move. They did a TV movie of it. Of course.

Angeline Compau:

Is that what you watched?

Rebecca Smith:

Yes. on YouTube. Can I just say the best thing about this TV movie was that whoever posted on YouTube recorded it like on VHS. They recorded on like VHS tape and the quality was surprisingly good. But when they're playing it on YouTube, they don't take out any of the commercials from 1989

Angeline Compau:

No way.

Rebecca Smith:

It was like a lot of Perm commercials.

Angeline Compau:

No way,

Rebecca Smith:

it was a lot of like, old like Daihatsu car commercials. And it was crazy.

Angeline Compau:

Oh my God,

Rebecca Smith:

it was so crazy.

Angeline Compau:

That's cool.

Rebecca Smith:

And then you could see like, like, your Tuesday night, like your Tuesday night lineup is first who's the boss. And it was so funny. It was who's the boss Wonder Years. And then they were doing like a comedy special or something like that.

Angeline Compau:

I love The Wonder Years.

Rebecca Smith:

So that was a Tuesday night lineup on ABC in 1987 people. So or 89 when the movie came out. Anyway, so she fell down this eight inch well. So she was playing in the backyard. I guess somehow there was like, it wasn't capped.

Angeline Compau:

I was about to say what

Rebecca Smith:

like our wells are here.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah. What?

Rebecca Smith:

No, there was like a rock or something covering it. And so I guess the kids move the rock somehow. And then she just like, flew right down in there.

Angeline Compau:

Even still they're like small?

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah, it was eight inches? Eight inches wide.

Angeline Compau:

How did how?

Rebecca Smith:

Right. So

Angeline Compau:

oh my god,

Rebecca Smith:

she fell in there. And basically she was lodged down, like 20 feet or something like that.

Angeline Compau:

Oh my God.

Rebecca Smith:

And the way that she was lodged. She had one foot down. And then one foot up. So she was like in a split position. Yeah.

Angeline Compau:

What are you? Oh my god. I wish you could see my face.

Rebecca Smith:

I know. Right.

Angeline Compau:

So, so for 58 hours.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah. That's

Angeline Compau:

in the splits position.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah. So they're like, I remember it all happening. Like I remember seeing it on the news. And on that CNN, of course, there was like the major news event or whatever, trying to figure out how to get her out of this well. Because obviously you can't reach her. Even if you put stuff down. You don't know that she's gonna be able to grab it. And then you don't want to risk like her

Angeline Compau:

ripping her leg off

Rebecca Smith:

or her falling further and drowning. Because

Angeline Compau:

Oh, yeah, that could happen. That's not funny.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah, that. Yeah. So what they decided to do is they're going to drill a Texas is big oil country, right? So they're gonna drill an adjacent hole,

Angeline Compau:

okay,

Rebecca Smith:

to get down and then drill across underneath her and try and dislodge her and pull her out.

Angeline Compau:

This is coming back to me.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah.

Angeline Compau:

Okay,

Rebecca Smith:

so 1989 They don't really have a bunch of technology. So they're using all of this stuff. And it's like, taking forever, like using regular drills and stuff like that. But some of those drills like don't work when you're trying to go horizontally.

Angeline Compau:

Okay,

Rebecca Smith:

they only work vertically.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah.

Rebecca Smith:

And so there's this one big like, Texas oil guys like we have this cutting technology, you know, that we use? Basically it's like a high powered water cutter. So you have like high powered water spraying the stone that cuts it back. But the problem with that is is if you get too close to her you could like

Angeline Compau:

kill her

Rebecca Smith:

kill her. Yeah. So they had the they they find they got through with the the drill and then they could kind of reach up in there. They could touch her but, I mean, she's not

Angeline Compau:

Can she talk? moving or anything and it was so tight. So, so tight in there. So she, they, they brought the water drill thing in to kind of widen the hole a little bit more so that paramedics could maybe get through there. So in a TV movie, they're like that they send the paramedic guy down. And he's like, I can't get to her. I can't get her and she's like, crying and, you know,

Rebecca Smith:

No, she's, she's like, 18 months.

Angeline Compau:

Well, I don't know, maybe she could say words Oh,

Rebecca Smith:

she was singing. They were saying that she was yeah. Because well, the and the other thing is like, she's down there overnight, it gets pretty singing Winnie the Pooh and stuff like that. It was like, chilly. And so they're like trying to regulate her yeah, like baby words. temperature. So they have like these big things of oxygen and pumping oxygen down there for her.

Angeline Compau:

How is she going to the bathroom?

Rebecca Smith:

In her diaper?

Angeline Compau:

Oh, that's right. She wears diapers. I was like, what is she peeing on herself.

Rebecca Smith:

Well, and then she obviously had no food or water for 56 hours. So there's like all these doctors on the scenes and the doctor like, no, it's this and you need to do this. And I mean, there's like so many cooks in the kitchen. It was chaos. So this paramedic goes down tries to get her he can't get her and he's like, I just heard they're like yelling, They're like, pull her out. Just pull her leg. Just pull it and he's like, Oh, I know. And he's like, I can't I'm hurting her. I'm not gonna I and so it's like, all like he's like emotionally a wreck. So they he goes back up. And he's like, I'll be back. I'm so sorry. In the movie.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah.

Rebecca Smith:

So they go back up. And he's like, he goes, I couldn't do it. I can't get to her I need more room. I can't just like yank her shoe or whatever. I don't want to like, yank her and then she falls and then I can't, you know, properly have a hold of her.

Angeline Compau:

Right?

Rebecca Smith:

He's like you need to make the opening bigger. So then they send the water drill back down, and they kind of like cut away some more stuff. The meantime the doctor is like, he can't go back down there. He's like too emotionally unstable. And this and that I'm like, What the fuck lady? You talk about emotionally unstable, I mean, this is like a child's life or death. And basically, he's responsible for it.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah,

Rebecca Smith:

just give him what he needs. So that he feels comfortable doing it. I mean, jeez,

Angeline Compau:

yeah, geez get it together.

Rebecca Smith:

Get it together, lady. So, yeah, finally they get the hole a little bit bigger. Same paramedic, he's like, the the chief of police guy goes up to him and he's like, are you gonna be able to do this? Because if you're not able to do this, then we gotta get somebody else. And he's like, no, no, I can do it. So they sent him and his partner back down. And he gets a hold of her and he's like dislodging her, but he dislocated her hip?

Angeline Compau:

Well,

Rebecca Smith:

and then he's like, Fucker. So then he like, realodges her hip, gets it back in there. And I don't know how, like if he grabbed something else, like a piece of her clothes, I don't know. But somehow he was able to like pull her free. And then got her down and got her into the like the horizontal when they pulled her out. They put her on like a little baby backboard or whatever. And then like put that gauze around her head. And so that was like the major like the Pulitzer Prize. Award winning picture was when they pulled her out of the well,

Angeline Compau:

I gotta see that.

Rebecca Smith:

Oh, yeah. And you can see the live news coverage on YouTube as well.

Angeline Compau:

Oh, I do not want to see that. That is

Rebecca Smith:

well, it's like the last five minutes where they pull her out.

Angeline Compau:

Oh, my God. I would I would. No, that's too traumatizing for me. I don't want to see that

Rebecca Smith:

but it's a happy story cuz they got her out.

Angeline Compau:

Ah, still. I don't want to see it.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah, I mean, it was so Okay, so they pulled her out. They had to amputate a toe. Due to gangrene because of the way that she was positioned. She lost circulation.

Angeline Compau:

Oh,

Rebecca Smith:

yeah. She has a scar on her forehead where her head rubbed against the the well casing. She had like 15 different surgeries. But despite all of that she has no memory of any of that happening. Crazy.

Angeline Compau:

She doesn't even remember

Rebecca Smith:

no. Well, she was 18 months.

Angeline Compau:

Insane.

Rebecca Smith:

Right? So her parents divorced in 1990. Not sure shortly after,

Angeline Compau:

Yeah, no kidding. Why?

Rebecca Smith:

I don't know

Angeline Compau:

what who, who was stepping out? No, I'm just kidding.

Rebecca Smith:

It was probably like stressful for them. But it was weird in the movie because they're like, You should call your husband. She's like, No, my husband's working my husband's working. And I guess her credit they kept saying it's just gonna be a couple hours, we'll have her out in a couple hours.

Angeline Compau:

Oh

Rebecca Smith:

And she's like, I don't want to I don't want to call him, I'm afraid.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah. Was she afraid he was gonna be pissed off?

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah,

Angeline Compau:

because she wasn't watching.

Rebecca Smith:

I don't know.

Angeline Compau:

Probably because what were you doing mom?

Rebecca Smith:

She went inside to answer a phone call.

Angeline Compau:

Why would you do that? This is all your fault, you dumb bitch. I just kidding

Rebecca Smith:

Oh my God.

Angeline Compau:

I'm just kidding.

Rebecca Smith:

So when she turned 25 Baby Jessica turned 25 in 2011 She received a trust fund composed of donations from around the world. That is because people were like, pouring out, you know, like donating all this stuff. And so they put it in a trust fund for her. So when she turned 25 She got all that money, but I don't know how much money it was.

Angeline Compau:

Wow,

Rebecca Smith:

crazy. But yeah, like the whole world watched this baby get rescued from a well, and she now lives in a house less than two miles from where she fell. Crazy.

Angeline Compau:

What?

Rebecca Smith:

the sad part of this is the paramedic that pulled her out.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah.

Rebecca Smith:

Was unstable. He committed suicide in 1995.

Angeline Compau:

What?

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah, he shot himself in the head.

Angeline Compau:

Why?

Rebecca Smith:

with a shotgun due to suffering from post traumatic stress?

Angeline Compau:

I knew it. See. That's why I don't want to watch that footage like this. This is crazy.

Rebecca Smith:

You don't see that part. All you see is them bringing her out of the well with the gauze wrapped around her head. And that's it.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah,

Rebecca Smith:

you don't see all the other stuff was in the TV movie. But that was based on like interviews and everything else.

Angeline Compau:

Oh my god. Well, that's a lot of pressure.

Rebecca Smith:

Right?

Angeline Compau:

Oh my god. Yeah.

Rebecca Smith:

And they can portray that in the TV movie. They portrayed like him like, what am I supposed to do? Like,

Angeline Compau:

yeah,

Rebecca Smith:

it's a baby. I don't know

Angeline Compau:

and he's just a paramedic. It's not like he's a well, expert. Jesus,

Rebecca Smith:

right. He wants to help her. And but, I mean, I imagine having to yank her and you feel her leg come out of the socket. And you're just like, Oh, my God. Oh,

Angeline Compau:

well, luckily, he is an expert on that.

Rebecca Smith:

And then everybody yelling you to pull and you're like, I don't want to hurt her. And yeah,

Angeline Compau:

well,

Rebecca Smith:

It's sad

Angeline Compau:

no, he did the right thing because you he at least knew he was going to injure her if he yanked too hard. People are dumb.

Rebecca Smith:

People are dumb.

Angeline Compau:

People are really, really dumb.

Rebecca Smith:

But yeah, so then it was like a complete media circus after that doing all the interviews isn't that they went to the White House. They Ronald Reagan initially, because I think Ronald Reagan was in office and then Bush was taking over.

Angeline Compau:

Okay.

Rebecca Smith:

And so he was calling her like the America's baby and all this other stuff. And then

Angeline Compau:

Oh, my God.

Rebecca Smith:

They went when President Bush was in the White House, they went to the White House.

Angeline Compau:

I see that picture

Rebecca Smith:

so there's pictures of that. Yes.

Angeline Compau:

I see that.

Rebecca Smith:

So

Angeline Compau:

I see the paramedic holding her. She's wrapped up.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah.

Angeline Compau:

Oh my god. She's tiny.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah. Well, she fit in an 8 inch, 8 inch, tube. And then they're saying like the stupid doctor on this movie. I just want to punch her in the face. She's like, she's dehydrating. We can't get any water down to her. And if she dehydrates too much, she's going to lose weight, which then she's just gonna fall further and further and further. And I'm like, lady, you're not helping.

Angeline Compau:

No, you dumb bitch.

Rebecca Smith:

You are not helping the situation.

Angeline Compau:

I did think that though. I was like, if she does dehydrate and she loses water weight. She is gonna slip down. But yeah, I'm sure everybody already thought of that. We don't need you.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah. Crazy. Imagine, again, because they've been in the movies. Like, the mom goes in. And then she comes out. She's like, Jessica, where's Jessica. Then like, they show these two little kids like standing by this hole in the ground like hehe hehe

Angeline Compau:

is that how she found out? You think that's accurate, like to how she found out?

Rebecca Smith:

I don't know. But she was looking all over the yard the thing was uncovered. And so she's like, and she kept hearing like crying. And she's like, I know she's here somewhere. I don't know where she is

Angeline Compau:

she couldn't hear it like echoing because she's in a hole.

Rebecca Smith:

That's what she was saying. I could hear her but I didn't know where she was. And then she's like, Oh, my God, she sees the the rock off the thing. And she's like, Oh, my God, and she runs over there and she was like Jessica! And she's like, trying to reach down there, but she's like, 20 feet down. So trying to reach down there to get her and she can't

Angeline Compau:

worst mother in the world award goes to

Rebecca Smith:

you can't do that. So mean.

Angeline Compau:

Just kidding. It was the 80s Nobody cared in the 80s about their kids.

Rebecca Smith:

They didn't know that the rock heavy rock was gonna come off the hole and their baby was gonna step in it. I mean, how do you know? There were a bunch of kids in the background and the in the backyard playing of all different ages. And so she went inside to answer a phone call and then came right back out, which is true nowadays probably wouldn't happen. You would probably take your kids with you. But

Angeline Compau:

no, we all have cell phones. Somebody will just stay.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah. Yeah, we didn't have cell phones.

Angeline Compau:

I'm kidding. She that would that's a frickin fluke. That would have happened,

Rebecca Smith:

right?

Angeline Compau:

That's insane.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah. But imagine if she would have died. That would have been. That was the big thing when they pulled her out there like she's moving. She's blinking she's blinking, she's gonna be okay. Yeah,

Angeline Compau:

I'm like, of course, she's gonna be okay. You just got her out of the well, she's still alive. Like, what could possibly happen now?

Rebecca Smith:

Well, they didn't. I mean, everybody was speculating. They, oh, yeah, she's alive, but it's kind of like I would say like Princess Diana, when Princess Diana got in that car crash and everybody all the news media is reporting like, Oh, it's a broken arm, you know, blah, blah, no big deal than that. And then next thing she's dead and you're like, What? What? And yeah, so it's like you don't know like when people are reporting I never trust the news. Like, based on like, what really?

Angeline Compau:

I didn't know that happened.

Rebecca Smith:

What with Princess Diana?

Angeline Compau:

Yeah.

Rebecca Smith:

Oh, yeah.

Angeline Compau:

Oh, I just the next day I Oh, just heard she died

Rebecca Smith:

first it was she was in Princess Diana is in an accident. So I remember very clearly watching it. And they're like she suffered injuries. We don't know the extent of it. Oh, yeah. Now they're saying she has a broken arm

Angeline Compau:

why do they make stuff up.

Rebecca Smith:

Exactly.

Angeline Compau:

If you don't know. Just say, I don't know. She was in an accident.

Rebecca Smith:

Exactly.

Angeline Compau:

We don't know her condition. Yes. Don't say she has a broken arm. Oh, my gosh, that makes me angry.

Rebecca Smith:

People want their 15 minutes of fame. And so you get people maybe that are at the scene like oh, yeah, I saw it. I saw everything happened and yeah, she's fine. You know, but

Angeline Compau:

people are so stupid.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah.

Angeline Compau:

So stupid.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah. So yeah, you they don't I mean, they say she's okay. But I mean, do you really want to tell the world that this we have a dead baby in a well, no.

Angeline Compau:

Well, you don't want to but that would make for some good news.

Rebecca Smith:

I know they did have a guy that in the movie. They pretend like there was some guy going around talking all the news media and stuff like that. And I don't even know like if he was affiliated with the police or anything, but he's like talking the news media saying Oh, yeah, she's mad. Like, who are you?

Angeline Compau:

Who's this guy over here?

Rebecca Smith:

See false reporting. People want to believe anything?

Angeline Compau:

Yeah.

Rebecca Smith:

Or report anything? Douches.

Angeline Compau:

What a neat story.

Rebecca Smith:

Right? Baby Jessica captured the world.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah.

Rebecca Smith:

For 58 hours. I can't believe you knew that story. Because it was before you were born.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah. Well, I heard it on a podcast. But yeah, no, I did hear that story.

Rebecca Smith:

Kind of sad for the paramedic. I couldn't find anything on him.

Angeline Compau:

I did not know he killed himself.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah.

Angeline Compau:

I do not remember that.

Rebecca Smith:

I didn't know that either. But sad. And then I'm thinking my initial thought was but you're the hero of the story. You saved her.

Angeline Compau:

But he saw things, he heard things

Rebecca Smith:

Why do you have posttraumatic stress for that. But yeah, and then they watching that movie, I'm like, Oh, I get it. I get it.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah.

Rebecca Smith:

A lot of pressure. Oh, yeah.

Angeline Compau:

I get it. I when I get in pressure situations like that, not like that. But

Rebecca Smith:

yeah,

Angeline Compau:

I'm the first one to be like, where's an adult that's can handle this? Because I cannot. Who else is around because I'm not at all good under pressure. I don't I can't do things.

Rebecca Smith:

I oddly am calm in those kinds of situations. You know, who's really good at that my friend Wanda's really calm in those kinds of situations too

Angeline Compau:

Oh, she seems like she would be

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah. When I was I was in Edmonton. And I had like this weird stomach thing. And I don't think Josh I think Josh was at work or I couldn't get ahold of him or something. And I called Wanda and she's like, Okay, this is what we're gonna do. You're gonna I'm gonna come over there, then. We're gonna go this take you to the hospital. We'll call Josh on the way. I mean, she was just very like matter calm and matter of fact, like fine, you're fine. Everything's fine. And I'm like, okay.

Angeline Compau:

No, no, I'm a panicker.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah. If it's not me, if it's like, if you have something wrong with you, I would be the same way. I'd be like, Okay, this is what's gonna happen. We're gonna get this done.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah,

Rebecca Smith:

I'm gonna take you here. We're gonna do this. And that's why whenever you say like, I don't like, I'll handle it. What do you need me to do? I'll take you. I'll drive you what's happening?

Angeline Compau:

Because over here, I'm like, Okay. What should I do? I get, I don't know what to do.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah. I just don't like, I don't know. Even like with like, inconvenient stuff, like at the airports and stuff like that. It's like a flight gets canceled. Or I miss a flight. It's like, Okay, on to the next. What do we do? Like if my flights canceled? Where what? What can you do for me?

Angeline Compau:

Oh, that kind of stuff. I'm okay.

Rebecca Smith:

That's you're good at

Angeline Compau:

I'm good. I'm easy

Rebecca Smith:

Is it just health situations?

Angeline Compau:

if it's like an emergency. And like, there's pressure on I don't know what to do.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah,

Angeline Compau:

I do not know. Yeah, no, not at all. Like, okay, take yesterday, for instance. Right before recital started and Walker got sick.

Rebecca Smith:

Oh, yeah.

Angeline Compau:

If I was there, I'd have been like, oh, I don't know what to do. Where's a parent? I wouldn't know.

Rebecca Smith:

I'm need a parent.

Angeline Compau:

I need a parent.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah, April's baby threw up right before she was walking out the door to go to a recital.

Angeline Compau:

That is crazy.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah. Luckily, her dad was on his way. But yeah, all right, baby Jessica. Let's go get douche bag.

Angeline Compau:

Baby douche bag

Rebecca Smith:

Joshua,

Josh Smith:

I did give a loud throat clear at the start of the recital.

Rebecca Smith:

I didn't hear.

Josh Smith:

Nobody heard it.

Angeline Compau:

No,

Josh Smith:

my sports clap. was on fucking point

Angeline Compau:

I didn't hear a sports clap

Rebecca Smith:

I didn't hear a sports clap either.

Josh Smith:

the rest of the audience did it drowned out all the other clapping. I was throwing out sportsclaps

Angeline Compau:

What is a sports clap?

Rebecca Smith:

oh god don't, don't, don't

Josh Smith:

first off it's a loud clap

Angeline Compau:

Okay,

Josh Smith:

second off it's to a particular cadence Shall I demonstrate?

Angeline Compau:

Yes I gotta know.

Rebecca Smith:

you did not do this at recital I would have heard it.

Josh Smith:

Oh wait Jasper

Rebecca Smith:

Jasper get out of the way

Angeline Compau:

you did that?

Josh Smith:

sports clap people

Angeline Compau:

I wish I would have heard that

Josh Smith:

I gave those I gave those little tykes a sports clap to pep their spirits I sent Joe a text yesterday I was like power washed an entire deck, made it to the rehearsal or to the dance recital with three minutes to spare.

Rebecca Smith:

Yes,

Josh Smith:

hero.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah.

Josh Smith:

All right. Got topics but Angeline you said you had a topic. So

Rebecca Smith:

Angeline, he does that sports clap like just sitting in our living room like trying to rally the team

Angeline Compau:

okay, this is what happened to me today at McDonald's cuz I wanted to go get a breakfast sandwich and come over and we're gonna watch a movie and it's gonna be a great day. But I guess it's gonna be an OK day.

Josh Smith:

Once you get there and what happens?

Angeline Compau:

They tell me they aren't serving breakfast anymore.

Rebecca Smith:

What?

Josh Smith:

stop?

Angeline Compau:

I know

Josh Smith:

I thought breakfast was all day.

Angeline Compau:

That's what I thought

Josh Smith:

what happened, it stopped?

Angeline Compau:

I don't know I, or It's just our McDonald's, which I'm so mad.

Josh Smith:

I'm getting Angry now

Angeline Compau:

I am too. I was pissed off and I was like, What the fuck?

Josh Smith:

I don't even get the breakfast all day. But if I fucking want to, I should be able to

Angeline Compau:

Yes. They suck

Josh Smith:

You know what, fuck you McDonald's.

Angeline Compau:

They advertise that. They said you can have breakfast all day. And I didn't order anything like outrageous like pancakes. I said. Sausage egg and cheese McMuffin.

Rebecca Smith:

that's what you should get all day

Angeline Compau:

you can get that all day. Anywhere else apparently

Josh Smith:

do you have to order the cheese on the sausage, egg and cheese because that's what you taught me to get. But I don't order cheese on it

Rebecca Smith:

no, it comes to, with cheese on it.

Angeline Compau:

I just say it just to make sure because I want it clear.

Josh Smith:

Did you ever take the top off it and then put the hash brown on it and then put the top back on.

Angeline Compau:

Oh no, I've never done that.

Josh Smith:

Okay,

Angeline Compau:

that's a good idea.

Josh Smith:

It's not for the faint. You got like it's dirty, dirty meal. So you got boned into the chicken meal.

Angeline Compau:

I was so upset and then I was like, Ah, okay, well, what do I do now?

Josh Smith:

So you got a chicken sandwhich and a coffee?

Angeline Compau:

She said that, she was like you still want your coffee? I was like well, yeah, I need that. But now I need some food. What else do I get?

Rebecca Smith:

you didn't ask her questions. Like when did you guys stop doing that?

Angeline Compau:

No. I was panicked. Because I was like, I just need food. I'm not good in situations like that when you change up? What do you I had like a like a routine and this is what I was gonna get when you mess with me. I don't do well. I'm like,

Josh Smith:

you frazzle easy.

Angeline Compau:

Yes.

Josh Smith:

You rattle?

Angeline Compau:

I do.

Josh Smith:

Yeah,

Angeline Compau:

I do.

Josh Smith:

I told this to Angeline it's I don't know who told me this. And I have yet to try it but you get the extra large vanilla shake. You know McDonald's has the big one. And then you you take like a third of it out. You take it down. And then you slide a hot McDonald's apple pie down into the shake and then eat it with a spoon. apparently, I thought you're gonna give me the music apparently. It's, it's awesome. I gotta try that.

Angeline Compau:

I'm gonna try that.

Josh Smith:

I'm gonna try that on my birthday for my birthday present. I'm gonna slide that down my gullet.

Rebecca Smith:

Ease it on in.

Angeline Compau:

I think I'm gonna do that for your birthday too. For myself.

Rebecca Smith:

I'll do it.

Angeline Compau:

I'll do it for your birthday.

Josh Smith:

How's it my birthday? If you guys are getting good shit. No, no, no. You do that on your own fucking day.

Angeline Compau:

No, I'm gonna do it on your birthday.

Josh Smith:

All right, got my next topic. I saw this at work the other day. So upset. saw two things at work the other day. first same day by the way? Somebody brought in doughnuts. I'm all for that good job not criticizing. Here's the deal though. First off, don't be a fucking half doughnut taker like taking your hands and like breaking apart but that's bad but that's not that's not Savage. Here's what's savage leaving a quarter of a fucking doughnut.

Rebecca Smith:

It's like a doughnut hole.

Angeline Compau:

No,

Josh Smith:

no look look if you're going to take a donut take the whole fucking donut don't like rip a corner off and leave it there like some fucking savage who does that?

Rebecca Smith:

This isn't like a donut tasting you take the whole fucking thing or don't

Josh Smith:

Yeah, and if you're gonna take half take the other half with you. Nobody wants your you know, greasy unwashed hand donut. I mean, I'll eat it. But under protest. I didn't eat the quarter of a donut. I was like who the fuck does that?

Rebecca Smith:

Here's what I will say some people at my office that I used to work at would take like one of those plastic knives and then just like leave it on the side as if to say I did not use my hands. I cut the donut

Josh Smith:

I'm okay with that.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah,

Josh Smith:

if it's a half if it's a you're either either in or you're not a you're not three quarters person.

Rebecca Smith:

No,

Josh Smith:

that's bullshit. That's a bullshit.

Rebecca Smith:

See that's why you always just get doughnut

Josh Smith:

or just be a human and eat the whole donut. Oh, holes.

Angeline Compau:

are you kidding me? and then then I go, this is so bad, Look, would you like an

Rebecca Smith:

That's disgusting.

Josh Smith:

I wish I knew who did it because I would have I asshole? Whoever went into the restroom before me was so lazy would have sought him out. There would have been a confrontation. that when they replaced the toilet paper, they didn't put it on the roll. Didn't have the strength to lift that heavy toilet paper roll up all the way the back of the toilet. So some fucking asshole just left it there on the dirty floor. What

Rebecca Smith:

Public ridicule.

Josh Smith:

Yes. I'd put a big sign on it. I'd have taken a kind of a savage person leaves the, look it's so heavy. I can picture of it says this is the guy that does this.

Angeline Compau:

Oh, my God.

Josh Smith:

I don't know who you are you You filthy savage. But I hope I find you. And then my last topic and the reason why only spool the thing off of it from the ground is that was it it's short today. Audiences I picked an epic movie.

Rebecca Smith:

Oh my God, just like he left it

Josh Smith:

It's a three hour donger.

Rebecca Smith:

It's Josh's month and can I just say

Josh Smith:

no, you cannot say

Angeline Compau:

yes say it because

Rebecca Smith:

It's ridiculous.

Angeline Compau:

We're all thinking it

Rebecca Smith:

every fucking movie. You do not have a movie that you picked that is later than

Josh Smith:

I have an update.

Rebecca Smith:

1970.

Josh Smith:

I have an update. This will be the last movie of Joshua. Because it's too much work.

Rebecca Smith:

I said if we're doing these fucking three hour movies then you're doing all your own research. You're like I got it. I got

Josh Smith:

Yeah, there'll be there'll be no more movies pick for me. We're gonna watch it two Bugs Bunny cartoons. Like that's all I got. I would like to watch the Tom and Jerry. That's my next I'm changing my selections.

Angeline Compau:

Yay.

Josh Smith:

But

Rebecca Smith:

I really would rather watch The Magnificent Seven. That was on your list.

Josh Smith:

Great movie. Great movie. I mean, we can watch one more on my list.

Angeline Compau:

Okay,

Josh Smith:

so here's the problem. I went to the recital yesterday hero as I quoted earlier.

Angeline Compau:

Yes.

Josh Smith:

It's very clear what time the show starts.

Rebecca Smith:

Yes.

Josh Smith:

I get it if you Hello kids gotta pee. Gotta go in and I'll totally get it. I get it. If you're an aging person and you're you know, you're struggling you know, maybe to go bathroom. Get it?

Angeline Compau:

Yeah.

Josh Smith:

Look, if you're around our age or a little younger, yeah, and you're fucking coming in late. Not acceptable. And holy fucking people coming in late.

Rebecca Smith:

That's what I told you. My, remember I said if you can't get here by a certain time, then don't come.

Josh Smith:

Yeah, it's ridiculous coming in and out like every five seconds.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah.

Josh Smith:

And you know who was it was a mixture. It's all the 30 it's the same age 30 to 45. dads and moms.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah.

Josh Smith:

And then there's the busy mom who's not really part of the show. Right? but she's she's a big deal. Like she's walking

Angeline Compau:

Yeah, people around directing traffic but she's not actually working. I watched her for a while. You know, she knows like she's she's one of those people like that officially makes themselves unofficially makes himself you know part of the show in the cast but really has nothing to do with it. She wears like a power sandal. You know? Those were the words like the power sandals so they can really walk fast. Like the modern version of the Teva. Yeah, it's almost like a Teva. Yeah, one of those ladies

Rebecca Smith:

you are so ridiculous. What was your favorite dance? Josh?

Josh Smith:

All of them.

Rebecca Smith:

Stop it, what was your favorite dance?

Josh Smith:

every single one.

Rebecca Smith:

No,

Angeline Compau:

Yes.

Rebecca Smith:

You can't say that.

Angeline Compau:

No.

Rebecca Smith:

You have to pick.

Angeline Compau:

He doesn't remember one. I guarantee you don't remember any of them. Do you?

Josh Smith:

I remember them all.

Rebecca Smith:

What's your top three?

Josh Smith:

All of them.

Rebecca Smith:

Joshua, what's your top three?

Josh Smith:

It's like asking me whether I like vanilla like french vanilla ice cream or vanilla bean ice cream. You

Rebecca Smith:

see now I'm gonna think that you didn't even stay can't I'm thinking that you're one of those people that left? Because you can't name a dance

Josh Smith:

No, I was there. I was there

Rebecca Smith:

then name a dance.

Josh Smith:

I hope you pick my sports clap up on the CD.

Angeline Compau:

Oh, I hope so too. Oh, I want to hear that. That's

Josh Smith:

I like the tap. That's all I got. I just

Angeline Compau:

yeah,

Josh Smith:

there we go.

Angeline Compau:

our tap was good.

Josh Smith:

Okay, so that is the audience

Rebecca Smith:

Notice he didn't say what the song was because he probably doesn't know

Josh Smith:

I finally figured out why that one song song was stuck in my head. Not New York, New York.

Rebecca Smith:

Luck be a Lady.

Josh Smith:

Yeah, cuz I keep singing that at work. And I have no idea where it came from. And now I know where it came from. I don't know how I heard you recital music ahead of time but

Rebecca Smith:

Probably because I practice.

Josh Smith:

I've been singing luck be a lady tonight. All week at work. And then it finally went off. I'm like, oh, that's where that

Rebecca Smith:

this morning. He was singing uptown funk.

Angeline Compau:

Oh,

Rebecca Smith:

so that was

Josh Smith:

I did up uptown funk

Angeline Compau:

so you were there

Josh Smith:

There you go.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah,

Josh Smith:

proof in the pudding

Angeline Compau:

right there.

Josh Smith:

I was there sports clapping and throat clearing like a son of a bitch.

Rebecca Smith:

I think my favorite dance is September because Joe is just the best

Angeline Compau:

That was my favorite.

Josh Smith:

I did that young man that is in that he's the only guy in their dance.

Rebecca Smith:

studio

Josh Smith:

He's like 14, 15 years old

Rebecca Smith:

no he's like, 17, 16

Josh Smith:

I remember that kid when he was like, young he still he's been the only guy in your dancer you as far as I can And, you know, he's, he's kind of hapless. He's remember.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah. trying real hard. And I'm not dogging him, I'm like, He's given it his best. It but he's usually, you know, not like in sync with the rest of them. You guys did that one dance. And that kid actually showed up and stole the show on that. I was like alright dude. Yeah,

Angeline Compau:

he kills it.

Rebecca Smith:

They did September and we did the it's like a disco choreography and I'm like, Joe, and I told him I

Josh Smith:

Joe, I couldn't pick up any technical issues with my told him at the in the class. I said, Joe, you're going to be the John Travolta of this because it's disco. I said, I need you in like a white suit. And you're gonna so I saw him backstage. And after the first dance, and I'm like, Oh my God, He is the best ever He was just giving it. He was just giving it and he may not get all the steps, right? He may not technically be perfect, but his performance and his attitude is so awesome. critical eye.

Rebecca Smith:

It was so good.

Angeline Compau:

It was beyond amazing.

Rebecca Smith:

I said, Joe. I really feel like this suit is doing it for you, he's like I think it is. It's so good.

Josh Smith:

You can take that with you.

Angeline Compau:

Okay, that's gross.

Rebecca Smith:

That's why that was my favorite.

Angeline Compau:

Did I pull it out.

Josh Smith:

Yeah, just flying off your mangy head. Do you have mange?

Angeline Compau:

Yeah.

Josh Smith:

Joe, you did a good job. I know you don't listen to our show, Joe, but

Angeline Compau:

probably not. But did you hear all the girls chanting his name after finale too

Rebecca Smith:

see this is why Joe's a smart

Josh Smith:

Oh I thought they were chanting my name.

Angeline Compau:

Oh, yeah

Rebecca Smith:

shut up.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah, no

Rebecca Smith:

That's why Joe's smart. He's a 16 year old kid. Dancing with all of these pretty girls. I mean, come on dudes. Soccer's not where it's at.

Angeline Compau:

No, no.

Josh Smith:

I don't think I have any more. Any more topics?

Rebecca Smith:

Josh. What do you know about baby Jessica?

Josh Smith:

I don't know. Her name is Jessica.

Rebecca Smith:

You don't know the baby Jessica that fell in the well?

Josh Smith:

what?

Rebecca Smith:

Baby Jessica that fell in the well?

Josh Smith:

No, is this like a Simpsons episode?

Rebecca Smith:

No, this is real

Angeline Compau:

This is great.

Josh Smith:

I remember.

Angeline Compau:

Oh, my gosh

Rebecca Smith:

in 1987 Baby Jessica that fell down the well in Texas. And it was like 50-58 hours and they there was like this whole media circus to save her. How do you not remember that?

Josh Smith:

I don't know

Angeline Compau:

That's awesome.

Josh Smith:

I took the 80's off. I was I was six years old in 1980.

Rebecca Smith:

No 87.

Josh Smith:

So I was 13 years old. There's only one thing you think about when you're a 13 year old boy

Rebecca Smith:

should have been baby Jessica

Josh Smith:

In this order girls sports food like that's it. Everything else is

Angeline Compau:

that's hilarious. Is this like a Simpsons episode? That's great

Rebecca Smith:

The Simpsons did do athing on there.

Josh Smith:

I thought I remember something like that.

Rebecca Smith:

Yeah.

Josh Smith:

Alright, so listen for your viewing. Actually, you don't need one. I am going to prepare a few elk burgers.

Angeline Compau:

Okay,

Josh Smith:

because it's a long movie.

Angeline Compau:

I brought

Rebecca Smith:

two and a half hours

Angeline Compau:

I brought snacks too

Josh Smith:

what'd you bring?

Angeline Compau:

I brought my quesadilla from the other night.

Josh Smith:

Oh, she brought a snack for you.

Angeline Compau:

Yeah.

Josh Smith:

When somebody says, I brought snacks, it's like it implies it's for

Angeline Compau:

I meant it's just for me. I brought my own snack

Josh Smith:

Thanks Angeline. I was really excited to not get a taste of that

Angeline Compau:

I called and asked if anybody wanted McDonald's.

Rebecca Smith:

You did get a taste of that because it's the same quesadilla I brought home.

Josh Smith:

I didn't hear I didn't get a call.

Angeline Compau:

I called Rebecca.

Josh Smith:

You place those calls to me.

Angeline Compau:

I guess I do need to.

Josh Smith:

Yeah, for sure.

Angeline Compau:

Okay.

Josh Smith:

Come on now. If you would have called me what I'd be eating right now. A milkshake with a fucking apple pie.

Rebecca Smith:

I came up and I said Angeline's on her way. She was at McDonald's and then he called you and said,

Angeline Compau:

Oh, yeah, but it was too late.

Josh Smith:

Too late.

Angeline Compau:

I thought you would have at least what they asked him. I don't know.

Rebecca Smith:

No, he need anything, Angeline

Josh Smith:

I do need it.

Angeline Compau:

I thought maybe you wanted a coke or something? I don't know, I called

Rebecca Smith:

No because he had a Pepsi. I knew he had a Pepsi in there that he had at Rob and April's.

Josh Smith:

that Pepsi's not good.

Angeline Compau:

Coke is better than Pepsi

Josh Smith:

cokes better. Well, that's the only thing jets has when they went to pick up the pizza.

Angeline Compau:

Oh, yeah, that that's right. Yeah, that's what Jets had

Josh Smith:

I was so tired. That I had a coffee Pepsi and water like at the thing

Rebecca Smith:

he brought them in the thing into the recital.

Josh Smith:

I was exhausted.

Angeline Compau:

I don't blame you. I was exhausted.

Josh Smith:

I don't know when you get home. I was asleep.

Rebecca Smith:

I know. That hot tub was a nice.

Angeline Compau:

That hit the spot

Rebecca Smith:

it did

Angeline Compau:

lots of spots.

Rebecca Smith:

We need one of those.

Josh Smith:

Yeah. get right on that. All right, let's go watch the big country. Gregory Peck.

Angeline Compau:

Do you think Greg Louganis likes the big country?

Josh Smith:

I bet you Greg Louganis would respect the big country. Here's here's my only request long movie. If you hate it as much as I'll be on this Sunday, don't believe me. I went into Idiocracy with an open mind and I hated it. It wasn't cuz you picked. You may hate this movie. Give it a chance. It's Of course, I'm gonna do my best. all I'm asking. All right. Let's do this. Love you, Greg.

Angeline Compau:

Bye,

Rebecca Smith:

Bye.
